Carrigaline Community School Parents’ Association

Carrigaline Community School has an active Parents’ Association that supports all aspects of school development.  It meets regularly at the school and has regular meetings with the school Principal.  Officers are elected at its Annual General Meeting, to which all parents are invited.  Two parents from the Parents’ Association are nominated to the Board of Management.

Welcome from the Chairperson

As Chairperson of Carrigaline Community School Parents’ Association, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and to thank you all for your continued support.  You, as the parents of the students in our school, are all valued members of our Parents Association and I would like to take a moment to convey to you the tremendous and worthwhile work that is done by your Association on your behalf throughout the year.  Our AGM takes place each autumn.

The main aim of the Association is to provide “F O C U S”, and by this we mean, – Facilitate – Organise, – Communicate, – Understanding, – and Support, – providing full understanding and support between our school, you, the parents, and our children, the students. A further aim is to promote the Association’s profile, so we are becoming more and more prominent at events within the school i.e. the open evening for parents of in-coming first year students and at parent information mornings.

As parents we are all too aware of the financial constraints being placed on our families while our children are attending school, and the stress which this can cause.   We as an ‘active’ Association believe in doing our share and one of the most important tasks which we have now undertaken is to provide what we call our “SWAP SHOP”.  Each year, we encourage parents to donate to the school any spare or second-hand text books and any surplus uniforms (in clean and wearable condition).  These items we distribute free, on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis, to families who are in financial need.  This “Swap Shop” takes place twice yearly in conjunction with the school’s own sale of uniforms and books day.  What began as a simple idea has, over the past few years, snowballed and is now a very important and much appreciated part of our service.

Finally, the Parents’ Association is extremely lucky to have our own mobile telephone number and email address, should parents reading this wish to contact us directly … perhaps you might have some suggestions or ideas that you would like to share or, simply just voice your support!  We are available “during school hours ONLY” that is Monday to Friday, half day Wednesday.

We look forward to your continued support.

Yours in appreciation,

Róisín Mehigan,
Chairperson
